Robotics Academy, the publishers of RobotC, offer a free building instruction for a LEGO Mindstorms NXT bot. It is included with the RobotC software (part of the quick start). It is free when you download the RobotC 30 trail version. I have changed the design all little bit:

The bot is powered by two NXT motors (part no: 53787). Two light sensors (part no: 55969) in front check weather there is still ground under the wheels. A Ultrasound Sensor (part no: 53792) is able to detect objects in front. I put a non LEGO wireless AXIS 207W web cam and a Hitechnic compass sensor on the bot.

I use an other NXT with a Hitechnic Acceleration sensor to control the bot. Moving the Acceleration sensor will move and turn the Bot in any direction. The two NXT communicate wireless using blue tooth.

A test NXT-G Acceleration test program and the NXT-G Acceleration block can be download at www.HiTechnic.com.
This NXT (part no: 53788) bot is small, flexible and quick. It is a very easy hardware combination to try out new software tricks.

The web cam needs a 5v power supply. I used a 9v LEGO battery box with pin holes and red switch (part no: x1686cx1). To reduce the potential difference from 9v (or in case of rechargeable batteries 7,2v) to 5v I have used a 7805 volt regulator.
update: I have made made some small modifications to this bot, including a Playstation Joystick in combination with a Mindsensors NXT PSP-Nx-V3 interface. Read more about this here...
